Communications Specialist - Social Media and Stakeholder Outreach (Australia – Remote)

The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a talented Communications Specialist - Social Media and Stakeholder Outreach to support our Australia research team in producing high-quality,
engaging
and Interactive content.
The communications specialist will
be responsible for developing and implementing IEEFA Australia’s social media strategy through our various social media platforms. The specialist will also be responsible for developing IEEFA’s stakeholder outreach strategy in collaboration with the communications manager and CEO, and implementing it – which will include sending regular newsletters, event and report announcements EDMs to targeted stakeholder groups. The specialist will also provide backup for media relations to the communications manager.
We are looking for a self-motivated, multitasker, and who can work independently without continuous supervision. Working as part of a remote team in Australia, the ideal candidate will be expected to be able to communicate effectively with other members of the team over a variety of mediums (Zoom, G-suite, ClickUp, etc.), be comfortable with raising issues or questions along the way, and provide insights into your work.
IEEFA is an NGO/ not-for-profit that conducts research and analysis on financial and economic issues related to energy markets, trends, and policies. Headquartered in the United States, IEEFA has a team of 70+ analysts and communications personnel located in 15 countries across the globe. IEEFA produces a significant volume of original research, as well as ongoing analysis and reports on issues affecting energy industries. Responsibilities
- Design and implement a regional social media strategy to align with IEEFA’s goals, including collaborating with analysts and strategic partners to identify opportunities to use social to incite action among government, policy, finance and energy audiences.
- Follows trends in social media, including implications from changes in algorithms and influential accounts we should try to collaborate with
- Daily maintenance of multiple social media accounts including promotion of a high volume of commentary, reports and media features, ensuring a consistent look, feel, and tone for social media and digital content that aligns with our ongoing website redesign and global social media goals
- Maintain a social media content calendar with key dates; design and implement social media campaigns on key topics. This includes co-monitoring IEEFA’s Global and Asia Pacific’s social media accounts with relevant IEEFA colleagues, as well as supporting analysts with social media posting
- Monitors and analyzes social media channels to build a community of followers and enhance interaction, prepares reports on performance
- Collaboratively design a regional stakeholder outreach strategy to raise visibility of our work with IEEFA’s main audiences of government officials, politicians, financial organisations and NGOs
- Co-develop a plan for regular newsletters targeted at specific stakeholder groups.
- Maintain and enhance our Hubspot contact database and use it to prepare and send newsletters and event/report announcements EDMs
- Monitor newsletter signups and LinkedIn followers, to identify important new stakeholders and which types of content drive engagement
- Be able to step in and help provide media cover regularly. This includes sending emails to relevant media contacts about upcoming releases and coordinating/disseminating media requests with analysts

Required Qualifications
- 4-7 years of demonstrated experience in social media content production, media outreach or similar
- Relevant tertiary education in journalism, communications, public relations, media relations or another related field AND/OR 3+ years’ experience as a communications specialist or similar role
- Excellent knowledge of the best practices, trends, and emerging strategies to maximise impact on platforms such as LinkedIn, X (Twitter), and other social media platforms including advertising practices and analytics.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and design and publishing tools such as Canva, and Adobe Creative Cloud
- Ability to work under pressure with competing priorities and deadlines
- Excellent writing skills with a flair for summarizing long, complex stories into engaging and concise copy suitable for social media audiences
- Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) and email marketing software such as Hubspot
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable economy
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong interest in current affairs in Australia, particularly in the energy and finance sectors
- Experience working for a research organisation or advocacy organisation
- Experience with Canva and possibly Flourish using templates to create engaging visual content for multiple channels (social media, marketing emails, digital events etc.)
Compensation and Benefits
Full-time employment contract with remuneration A$92,868-112,080 base, plus super. Our competitive benefits package includes annual leave (20 days per year), personal/carer’s leave (10 days per year), a Professional Development Allowance, an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a home office set-up stipend, a monthly mobile phone allowance, and technology equipment provided.
Work Schedule
Full-time, 38 hours/week, with occasional evening or weekend work as required.
Location and Travel
The Communications Specialist - Social Media and Stakeholder Outreach will work remotely and may be based anywhere in Australia. Some travel is required. All global team members attend IEEFA’s annual conference and international team retreat. Quarterly in person team meetings alternate between Sydney and Melbourne.
Physical Demand and Work Environment.
Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back and neck strain.
