Associate Director, Digital and Social Media
About the Position:
The Associate Director, Digital and Social Media leads NACo’s digital presence, engagement, and performance across all digital platforms, ensuring cohesive, impactful storytelling that strengthens NACo’s mission and member engagement. This role blends strategic leadership, marketing planning and hands-on digital execution, overseeing the health, reach, and optimization of NACo’s web, email, and social channels while shaping content strategy and user experience across digital touchpoints. The Senior Manager develops data-informed strategies to grow NACo’s audience, expand reach into new platforms, and ensure all content, from long-form reports to “snackable” social media, is optimized for maximum engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategy and execution of NACo’s digital ecosystem, including NACo.org, social media, email, and multimedia channels, to strengthen visibility, engagement, and member connection.
- Oversee development of content strategies that align with NACo’s advocacy, membership, and thought leadership goals.
- Collaborate across departments to integrate digital strategies into NACo’s programs, campaigns, and events.
- Serve as the hands-on lead for NACo.org and email publishing, as well as webinar support, working in partnership with internal teams and external contractors/vendors.
- Oversee web content publishing operations, ensuring timely updates, consistent formatting, and brand and accessibility compliance across the site.
- Partner with departments across NACo to support content development, updates, and optimization for pages and microsites.
- Ensure NACo.org content is relevant, user-friendly, and aligned with organizational goals and messaging.
- Manage SEO, navigation, and user experience improvements to drive engagement and discoverability.
- Optimize email design, segmentation, and analytics to improve engagement, open rates, and conversions.
- Coordinate and manage webinar setup, promotion, and technical support, ensuring a seamless experience for members and staff.
- Research and recommend emerging tools and automation solutions to improve efficiency and user engagement.
- Develop and execute digital marketing campaigns that target key member segments and audiences with relevant, high-impact messaging.
- Leverage paid and organic strategies to amplify reach, engagement, and conversion rates.
- Recommends campaign budgets and manages social media promoted content. Develop and execute paid media plans across social, search or other third party channels.
- Manage segmentation and targeting strategies to reach the right audiences through tailored digital experiences.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop and implement campaign calendars aligned with NACo’s membership cycles, events, programs, and advocacy priorities.
- Monitor, measure, and optimize campaign performance—tracking metrics such as click-through rates, engagement, conversion, and ROI.
- Identify opportunities to expand NACo’s digital footprint through new platforms, partnerships, and innovative marketing tactics.
- Lead strategy around NACo’s social media presence across LinkedIn, Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, and new platforms.
- Develop channel-specific strategies to grow audience reach, engagement, and influence.
- Translate long-form NACo content into snackable, high-performing posts and videos that resonate with key audiences.
- Partner with the creative team to produce visually compelling and story-driven digital content.
- Enhance conference and event engagement, drive registration, and deliver content through digital channels.
- Analyze website, social, and email analytics to track performance, trends, and engagement.
- Consolidate or retire outdated content to ensure an efficient and high-performing digital ecosystem.
- Stay current on digital storytelling, design, and marketing innovations to position NACo as a best-in-class communicator
- Supervise Digital Associate
- Work closely with NACo’s creative, policy, membership, and IT teams to ensure digital alignment and integration.
- Provide digital support for major reports, publications, and advocacy initiatives.
- Support other communications functions and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, or related field.
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in digital communications, marketing, or social media strategy.
- Demonstrated experience in digital campaign development and optimization.
- Proficiency with CMS platforms, HTML/CSS, email marketing tools, marketing automation and analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Sprout, HubSpot, Meta Business Suite, etc.).
- Experience managing paid social, SEO, SEM, and digital ad campaigns.
- Strong understanding of UX/UI, accessibility standards, and audience segmentation.
- Excellent writing, editing, and digital storytelling skills.
- Ability to lead projects while being hands-on with web and email execution.
- Experience managing staff and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Familiarity with government, association, or public sector communications preferred.
Location and Travel:
This position is eligible for hybrid work, with travel for NACo conferences, meetings, and partner engagements.
Salary range: $100,000 to $120,000 commensurate with experience and resource availability
