Job Summary – The Social Media Coordinator supports Calvin University’s brand and mission by creating, curating, and publishing engaging content across the university’s primary social media platforms. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Internal and Digital Communication, this role helps execute the university’s social media strategy, collaborates with departments and student contributors, and monitors trends and analytics to optimize engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Publishing
- Develop and schedule daily content for Calvin University’s main social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube).
- Capture and edit photos and videos for social media use, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines.
- Write compelling captions and posts tailored to each platform and audience.
Community Engagement
- Monitor social media channels for comments, messages, and mentions; respond or escalate as appropriate.
- Engage with followers and amplify community voices in alignment with Calvin’s values and tone.
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with the Assistant Director of Internal and Digital Communications to execute campaigns and initiatives.
- Coordinate with departments, faculty, and student organizations to promote events and stories.
- Assist in training and supporting student social media contributors.
Analytics & Reporting
- Track and report on key performance metrics (reach, engagement, follower growth, etc.).
- Use insights to inform content planning and identify opportunities for improvement.
Supervisory Responsibilities– Possibly 1-2 student workers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience managing social media accounts for an organization or brand.
- Proficiency in social media platforms and scheduling tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social).
- Strong writing, editing, and visual storytelling skills.
- Basic photo and video editing skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
- Familiarity with accessibility and inclusivity best practices in digital content.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education or mission-driven organizations.
- Understanding of SEO, social media advertising, and analytics tools.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
