The Bowery Mission is a Christian, faith-based organization committed since the 1870s to serving people experiencing homelessness, hunger, and poverty. As a key member of the Development Team, Content and Social Media Manager will develop and manage storytelling and digital content that elevates awareness, engagement, and support for the Mission. This role will lead content ideation and production across media formats, drive social media strategy, and ensure that storytelling reflects our values of compassion, dignity, and diversity.
The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller, social media native, and collaborative team player with a deep passion for justice and care for people experiencing homelessness and poverty.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Content Creation & Storytelling
- Develop compelling stories across multiple formats to raise awareness and support for The Bowery Mission.
- Collaborate with the Director of Communications & Marketing to maintain a content calendar.
- Produce strategic donor-facing marketing collateral and support PR strategy.
- Uphold a client-centered storytelling approach, coordinating interviews, photos, videos, and testimonials with sensitivity and informed consent.
- Manage content protocols, including consent forms, style guides, and story archives.
Social Media Strategy
- Lead the full content lifecycle across all platforms—from concept and creation to publishing and analytics.
- Produce trend-aware, engaging, and on-brand social content to meet KPIs.
- Act as The Bowery Mission’s social media expert, monitoring trends, platform shifts, and best practices.
- Analyze social performance and provide insights to improve engagement and reach.
Collaboration & Support
- Provide writing and content support across the organization, including fundraising, events, and program materials.
- Draft boilerplates, program summaries, impact report content, and event scripts.
- Support campaign planning with timely content for Direct Response Marketing.
- Manage organizational style guide, ensuring clarity and consistency of messaging.
- Maintain and organize The Bowery Mission’s photo, video, and story libraries.
Requirements:
- Embrace's the organization’s Statement of Faith.
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Media Production, or related field.
- 2–4 years of relevant professional experience (nonprofit experience a plus).
- Strong compassion and commitment to serving vulnerable communities.
- Exceptional storytelling, copywriting, and editing skills.
- Proven ability to ideate, shoot, and edit compelling short-form social content.
- Skilled in photography, videography, and editing tools (Splice, CapCut, Adobe Premiere, Canva, in-app editing suites).
- Strong analytical skills and ability to translate insights into actionable strategies.
- Excellent project management, time management, and attention to detail.
- High integrity, with the ability to build trust with internal and external stakeholders.
- Alignment with The Bowery Mission’s Statement of Faith and Code of Conduct.

Salary commensurate with relevant education & experience: $70,000 - $78,000 annually.
