The Snow Reporter/Social Media Assistant supports daily communications around conditions and resort updates. Reporting to the Communications & Social Media Specialist, the Snow Reporter is responsible for creating the daily snow report, bringing their own unique voice and personality. They'll report updates across Snowbird.com, social channels and other communications channels as needed. Social Media/Communications tasks include daily updates and conditions-based content creation and Snowbird App updates.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Maintain early-morning communication with Mountain Operations (snowmaking, grooming, patrol, lift maintenance) to compile and disseminate accurate mountain condition updates.
- Arrive by 5:30 AM to ensure the daily snow report is distributed by 6:00 AM.
- Write, edit and publish the Daily Snow Report on Snowbird.com and distribute updates across Snowbird’s communication channels.
- Update the Road & Snow phone message, @SnowbirdAlerts X, Powder Alert emails and Snowbird App notifications multiple times daily as needed.
- Ski or snowboard daily to confirm snow conditions and gather content for communications and social media use.
- Maintain the snowstake camera and assist with visibility improvements as needed.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Team to ensure consistent tone and accuracy across reports.
- Provide timely and professional responses to guest and media inquiries received via [email protected], [email protected] or in person.
- Support the Communications Team with social media content including capturing, timely posting, caption copywriting and engaging with influencers, athletes and other accounts when necessary across Instagram, Facebook, X, Threads, and TikTok.
- Contribute written and visual content for Snowbird’s Blog and other web features.
- Lead live social coverage of events throughout the season, including some weekends and evenings.
- Capture and edit photo/video content tailored to real-time coverage and brand storytelling.
- Support media and influencer hosting: vet potential guests, draft itineraries, manage lodging requests, distribute lift/activity vouchers, and coordinate meals.
- Maintain and update media contact lists, Media Center content, press kits and digital asset galleries.
- Track earned media through platforms like Cision and assist in reporting coverage.
- Update and maintain Snowbird listings and marketing copy on third-party platforms such as Yext, CVENT, Wedding Wire, The Knot, Ski Utah, Visit Salt Lake and OnTheSnow.
- Collaborate with the Digital Marketing Specialist to maintain up-to-date, optimized website content aligned with SEO/AEO strategy and Snowbird’s brand standards.
- Support the Resort Experience Operations (REO) team with menu and signage delivery.
- Restock collateral and hang promotional posters in-resort as needed.
- Perform weekly resort signage walk-throughs to ensure all departments maintain Snowbird’s brand and visual standards.
- Support cross-departmental marketing initiatives, events and on-mountain activations.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED TO GET THE JOB DONE
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field required.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- 1-2 years’ experience in marketing, social media, communications or a combination of education and experience with comparable knowledge and skills.
- Advanced skiing or snowboarding ability.
- Must be willing to ski/ride on a daily basis.
- Must have reliable transportation to Snowbird in the early morning (arrival at 5:30 am) when snowy road conditions may be present (chains or snow tires and AWD or 4WD).
- Excellent understanding of social media platforms, including their respective strengths, nuances, success metrics and relevant demographics.
- Dependable, self-starter, reliable and able to work early mornings.
- Must have reliable transportation to Snowbird in the early morning (arrival at 5:30 am) when snowy road conditions may be present.
- Comfortable speaking on camera.
- Excellent copywriting and proofreading skills, able to turn large ideas and communications into engaging, short and clear captions.
- Familiarity with photography/videography equipment, as well as Adobe CC, preferred.
- Demonstrates ability to execute tasks and projects independently, handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Advanced skiing or snowboarding ability.
- Must be willing to ski/ride on a daily basis.
- Ability to foster relationships regardless of personality and maintain high level of professionalism regardless of situation.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Passion for skiing, snowboarding and the outdoor lifestyle.
- Knowledge of the winter resort industry a must, knowledge and familiarity with Snowbird a plus.
- Valid Driver License with clean MVR (driving record).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and other computer functionality required.
WORK SCHEDULE
- Sunday - Thursday, 5:30AM – 2:00PM
- Seasonal from November to April/May
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Must be prepared to stay overnight if necessary on occasional times of road closures.
- May experience unusual stress from high business volumes, deadlines, continual work with public, winter conditions, snow night requirements and commuting to/from Snowbird.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
- Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions.
- General office environment with limited physical activity.
- Work is outdoors and requires constant exposure to cold and other extreme weather conditions.
- Work is routine in pleasant, comfortable surroundings. General office conditions prevail.
- Work is subject to frequent interruptions making continuity and accuracy difficult, frequent exposure to noise.
- Must be able to walk on slippery surfaces of snow and ice.
- Must be able to walk over uneven, uphill/downhill areas.
- Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
- Must be able to walk through deep snow, occasionally.
